Markets

We take pride in supporting those age 50 and older who have an interest in a manufacturing career. AARP Connecticut created a $10,000 scholarship fund for state residents over 50 enrolled in a community-college manufacturing program. Goodwin College offers AARP members a 25% scholarship, which includes its manufacturing programs.

Careers/Job Opportunities

AARP Connecticut believes it’s important for the state to develop a pipeline of skilled workers and mentors to meet current demand and the substantial projected need over the next few decades. Immediate and long-term opportunities exist throughout technical high schools, community and state college systems, as well as Goodwin College. The entry points allow a retiree to work a few hours a week or to entirely re-career into a full-time position. No teaching experience or degree is required. Professional-development courses for manufacturing professionals looking to switch to college instruction are available.

Company Benefits

In collaboration with Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, private colleges and high schools, AARP Connecticut encourages retirees with real-world knowledge to consider teaching the next generation of manufacturers.

Community Engagement

AARP Connecticut has taken a multifaceted, inter-generational approach to tackle the thriving manufacturing industry, including working with education officials to host events to identify and recruit retired manufacturers who might consider applying their real-world skills in the classroom. To assist in the development of youth exploring a career in manufacturing, AARP Connecticut contributed $1,000 to the Wallingford School District, to support hiring retirees with manufacturing experience as professional mentors for teachers.
